Where We Are

The St. Louis Region

East-West Gateway Council of Governments (EWG) serves an area that spans more than 4,400 square miles in the bi-state St. Louis region and includes the city of St. Louis and FranklinJefferson, St. Charles, and St. Louis counties in Missouri and Madison, Monroe, and St. Clair counties in Illinois.

The eight jurisdictions EWG serves are part of the larger St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).  The St. Louis MSA spans the city of St. Louis and 14 counties in Missouri and Illinois.  The map below shows the St. Louis region that EWG serves (red) and the remainder of the MSA (gold).

How Does St. Louis Compare?

EWG produces Where We Stand, a publication that ranks St. Louis among the 50 most populous regions in the United States on a range of topics important to the St. Louis region, including demographics, the economy, education, race, and transportation.  The report and associated data can be accessed on EWG’s Where We Stand page.
