In 2016, East-West Gateway Council of Governments (EWG) completed the fourth round of Great Streets demonstration projects. The round four projects were funded through federal transportation planning grants and local funds provided by the project sponsors. The round four projects included Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Gravois Road, North 14th Street, Smithton Main Street, and Woodson Road.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive (MLK Drive) is located in the city of St. Louis, Missouri. EWG in collaboration with the city of St. Louis and other key stakeholders developed a series of white papers which culminated in the MLK Drive Strategic Planning Report. EWG’s goal for the planning document was to create a concise practical tool that the community could use to make MLK Drive a great street. The planning process for MLK Drive included community engagement and feedback, an examination of existing conditions (e.g. transportation, land use and zoning, environmental, economic) along the MLK Drive corridor, and the identification of strategies for improving the corridor and potential funding sources to support the improvements.
Gravois Road
Gravois Road is located in Affton in St. Louis County, Missouri. EWG in collaboration with the community leaders of Affton, St. Louis County, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), and other key stakeholders developed a series of white papers which culminated in the Gravois Road Strategic Planning Report. EWG’s goal for the planning document was to create a concise practical tool that the community could use to make Gravois Road a great street. The planning process for Gravois Road included community engagement and feedback, an examination of existing conditions (e.g. transportation, land use and zoning, environmental, economic) along the Gravois Road corridor, and the identification of strategies for improving the corridor and potential funding sources to support the improvements.
North 14th Street
North 14th Street is located in the city of St. Louis, Missouri. EWG in collaboration with the city of St. Louis and other key stakeholders developed a series of white papers which culminated in the North 14th Street Strategic Planning Report. EWG’s goal for the planning document was to create a concise practical tool that the community could use to make North 14th Street a great street. The planning process for North 14th Street included community engagement and feedback, an examination of existing conditions (e.g. transportation, land use and zoning, environmental, economic) along the North 14th Street corridor, and the identification of strategies for improving the corridor and potential funding sources to support the improvements.
Smithton Main Street (Illinois State Route 159)
Illinois State Route 159 serves as the main street for the village of Smithton, Illinois. EWG in collaboration with the village of Smithton and other key stakeholders developed a series of white papers which culminated in the Smithton Main Street Strategic Planning Report. EWG’s goal for the planning document was to create a concise practical tool that the community could use to make the Smithton Main Street a great street. The planning process for Smithton included community engagement and feedback, an examination of existing conditions (e.g. land use and zoning, transportation, environmental) along the Smithton Main Street, and the identification of strategies for improving the corridor and potential funding sources to support the improvements.
Woodson Road
Woodson Road is located in the city of Overland in St. Louis County, Missouri. EWG in collaboration with the city of Overland and other key stakeholders developed a series of white papers which culminated in the Woodson Road Street Strategic Planning Report. EWG’s goal for the planning document was to create a concise practical tool that the community could use to make Woodson Road a great street. The planning process for Woodson Road included community engagement and feedback, an examination of existing conditions (e.g. transportation, land use and zoning, environmental, economic) along the Woodson Road corridor, and the identification of strategies for improving the corridor and potential funding sources to support the improvements.
