Transportation Planner – Archive – 2023-01-05

East-West Gateway Council of Governments (EWG) has an opening for a Transportation Planner in the Transportation Planning Department. This position will report to the Transportation Improvement Program Coordinator.

Essential job functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking one or more technical components of the development of the region’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), including supporting calls for projects for local programs, working closely with local public agencies on application submittal, evaluating project applications, and monitoring scope changes of programmed projects.
  • Supporting a range of federal, state, regional, and local transportation programs and projects.
  • Working closely with local public agencies, transportation providers, and state departments of transportation to program and monitor programmed projects.
  • Providing outreach to local public agencies on funding eligibility and requirements.
  • Conducting research, compiling data, and performing analyses on a variety of programming matters.
  • Presenting to EWG’s Board and committees.
  • Assisting with other transportation related planning as necessary.

Job qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of urban and regional transportation planning, related to the following disciplines: transportation policy and analysis, performance-based planning and evaluation, transportation funding sources, and project programming.
  • Familiarity with federal metropolitan planning requirements.
  • Analytical and critical reasoning skills, and must be able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience with spreadsheet and database software applications.

The candidate for this position will have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university, with major course work in transportation planning, urban/community and regional planning, or closely related field with a minimum of 1 year related professional experience (including internships or similar experience). A graduate degree in a directly related field may be substituted for 1 year of experience. Recent college graduates will be considered.
