Sustainability Planner

East-West Gateway Council of Governments (EWG) has an opening for a Sustainability Planner in the Community Planning Department.  The Sustainability Planner will report directly to the Sustainability Planning Manager.  The Sustainability Planner will work with planning staff on a variety of projects including but not limited to: watershed planning, community development, food systems, hazard mitigation/resiliency, biodiversity, and green infrastructure.

The Sustainability Planner’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:  researching and making updates to OneSTL resources and website; assisting with hazard mitigation planning and report  production, studies and plans that focus on local and regional needs, community development and sustainable development; planning and organizing educational conferences and workshops; and working directly with community organizations on outreach activities for specific projects; and incorporating equity into efforts.

The position requires working knowledge of urban planning, environmental planning, and sustainability planning.  The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to:  engage and collaborate with community organizations and government agencies; facilitate group discussions; present to diverse audiences in various settings; plan and develop educational workshops; and establish and foster contacts outside the agency.  The successful candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Other desired skills include proficiency in MS Office; familiarity or experience with mapping or graphics programs, and familiarity with social media and other communication tools.

The successful candidate for this position will have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university, with major course work in urban planning, sustainability planning, environmental planning, public administration, political science, or a closely related field and will have 1 year of relevant experience (including internships or similar experience).  A graduate degree in a directly related field may be substituted for 1 year of experience.  Recent college graduates will be considered.
