Surface Transportation Program-Suballocated
The Surface Transportation Program-Suballocated (STP-S) provides flexible funding that may be used by State and local governments for projects to preserve and improve
the conditions and performance on any Federal-aid highway, bridge and tunnel projects on any public road, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, and transit capital projects, including intercity bus
terminals. This program is funded through the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program which was authorized by the current transportation law the Fixing America's Surface Transportation
STP-S funds can be used for projects such as:
- Roadway resurfacing or reconstruction
- Bridge replacement, rehabilitation or preventive maintenance plans
- Bicycle and pedestrian facilities
- Traffic flow improvements

eligible for STP-S funds, however, bridges on roads functionally classified as local or rural minor collectors may be replaced with only minimal connecting road work eligible for federal funds.
