Safety Initiative

Safe travel is one of the top priorities of the St. Louis region's transportation agenda. Despite decades of investment in roadway safety improvements, fatalities and serious injuries from motor vehicle crashes continue to occur at alarmingly high rates. In fact, in 2004, the St. Louis metropolitan area ranked 3rd among 34 peer MSAs in the rate of fatalities from motor vehicle crashes. It is a tragic way to lose some of the best and brightest of our citizenry prematurely.
