there were 172,202 registered voters in Madison County comprising 88.5% of the voting age population. There were 101,953 households in the county with an average size of 2.48
persons and the median age of residents was 36.9 years. Median household income ws $41,541 annually with 7.3% of county
families and 9.8% of the total population with incomes below the poverty level. 83.9% of workers drove to work alone and 1.5% took
public transportation to work. The county seat is the City of Edwardsville. The county is governed by a 29 member County Board and a County Board
Chairman. Madison County has 29 municipalities (both those completely and partially within the county).
