MONROE COUNTY, ILLINOIS

Monroe County was established in 1816 and covers 388.3 square miles and had a 2000 rippelmeyer1population of 27,619. As of the November, 2000 general election there were 20,244 registered voters in Monroe County comprising 99.7% of the voting age population. There were 10,275 households in the county with an average size of 2.65 persons and the median age of residents is 37.5 years. Median household income was $55 ,320 annually with 2.3% of county families and 3.4% of the total population with incomes below the poverty level. 86.2% of workers drove to work alone and .8% took public transportation to work. The county seat is the City of Waterloo. The county is governed by a 3 member County Commission and a County Board Chairman. Monroe County has 6 municipalities
