Purpose: The Metro South study team has just concluded months of analyzing the detailed alternatives and presented the results at two open houses. The alternatives were compared to one another using over 40 criteria. These criteria were developed according to the study’s purpose and need goals: improving access for opportunity, fostering economic development, and preserving neighborhoods and communities. Another consideration in the evaluation was performance and costs.

In addition to the build alternatives, the study team must consider Transportation System Management (TSM) and No-Build. The No-Build is those transit and roadway improvements that are already planned for in the region’s financially-constrained long-range transportation plan. The TSM consists of improvements beyond those in the No-Build that attempt to serve the purpose and need of the study without building a fixed guideway transit system, such as light-rail.

The purpose of the two open houses was to present the results of the analysis to the public and get input. Attendees also had the opportunity to view a virtual reality tour of each alternative and review aerial maps that identified potential property impacts. The content was the same for each meeting, and included a presentation from the study team.
