The purpose of this 10-month study was to explore the feasibility of extending light rail into Madison County. This means that a MetroLink route would not be selected at the end of the study. Instead,
valuable technical information and public input was collected then reviewed by local officials. They determined if light rail is a viable transit option that should be pursued for Madison
County.
East-West Gateway and its consultants managed this feasibility study. Supporting the study team was a Policy Advisory Committee made up of 18 community leaders. Madison County Transit funded the study.
Public Open Houses
In mid-December 2004, three public open houses were held for the Madison County MetroLink Feasibility Study. The first was held in Alton, the second in Granite City and the final meeting in Edwardsville,
Illinois. The purpose of this first round of open houses was to present the study's goals and potential light rail routes and to get public feedback. All three meetings had the same content and format.
