PREFACE

This monograph geographically profiles population change reflected by the 1990 and 2000 Censuses.  It presents a top-down look from the nation and its regions, through the Midwest Region, through the states of Missouri and Illinois to the St. Louis MSA.  It concludes with an in-depth examination of the St. Louis  region served by the East-West Gateway Coordinating Council.  The data and analyses are conveyed mainly through dot maps, supplemented, where appropriate by brief tabular data, representing population gains and losses.  The larger geographies are profiled by county with the St. Louis region depicted by Census Tracts.

A number of demographic variables are profiled including racial change for all geographies and additional variables for the St. Louis region.  The dot map illustrations depict, in addition to total population, the three racial categories of White, Black/African American and Asian and the Hispanic ethnic group which are of numerical and change significance for the St. Louis region.
