Notes: Before FY 1993, St. Louis was not in the top 50 of MSA's listed and so data for it fell under the 'other MSA" category. In terms of ranking, St. Louis ranged from as low as 49th of the
MSA's listed to a high of 38th (FY 2001). In terms of actual numbers, New York, the leader in FY 1993, had 128,000 compared to the 2,745 above.
Country-specific refers to the 28 countries with the largest numbers of immigrants nationwide. As noted above, sometimes political changes resulted in an area having a different name, as "Soviet
Union" and "Russia". The same 28 countries are used in all years to facilitate comparisons.
