Administrative Assistant II

The East-West Gateway Council of Governments has an opening for a position as an Administrative Assistant II. The individual in this position will be responsible for a variety of administrative and organizational activities in support of the work of the transportation department. Assigned tasks will include but not be limited to:

  • General administrative and clerical support for the work activities of department directors and staff;
  • Word Processing, complex report creation, and generation of presentation graphics; 
  • Data entry using Excel and Access
  • Arranging for meetings and regular communications for departmental staff;
  • Assisting with a variety of public outreach and participation activities;
  • Supporting regular and special meetings of ad hoc and standing advisory groups, including the creation, maintenance and distribution of mailing lists, meeting notices and summaries, setting up meeting rooms, taking and typing minutes, communicating effectively with committee members by telephone, fax and e-mail, and other duties as necessary;
  • Periodically relieving the receptionist at the switchboard.

The successful candidate for this position will have graduated from High School (or G.E.D.), including or supplemented by basic course work in English and mathematics and four years work experience. One full year of college-level study in business or related field may be substituted for one year of experience. Extensive experience with office software such as Word, WordPerfect and PowerPoint and spreadsheets such as Excel or Quattro is required.

 Transportation Planners

The East-West Gateway Council of Governments has four openings for Transportation Planners. These professional positions reports to the Senior Manager of Planning and Programming in the Transportation Planning Department and have responsibilities for assisting in the development and implementation of transportation planning activities at the Council.

Successful candidates must possess knowledge of principles and practices of urban and regional transportation planning related to transportation policy analysis, transportation system and project evaluation, and socioeconomic and environmental impact assessment. Experience with GIS and other computer-based analytical tools is required, and familiarity with SAFETEA-LU metropolitan planning requirements is highly desirable.

The successful candidates for these positions will have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university, with major course work in Transportation Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Public Policy, Civil Engineering, or in a directly related field and will have one (1) year of directly related professional experience or an equivalent combination of directly related education and professional experience.

Transportation Analyst II - Travel Demand Modeler

The East-West Gateway Council of Governments has an opening for a Transportation Analyst. This professional position reports to the Manager of Systems Evaluation and has general responsibility for developing and analyzing travel demand forecasts, as well as upgrading and maintaining the region’s travel demand model.

The position requires excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities. The successful candidate must possess considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of urban and regional transportation planning, with an emphasis on regional modeling. Direct experience in travel demand forecasting using CUBE VOYAGER or comparable software is necessary. Experience with air quality and land use models, GIS, and other computer-based analytical tools, and familiarity with SAFETEA-LU metropolitan planning requirements, is desirable.

Minimum educational requirements for this position includes graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, with major course work in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field, and three years of directly related professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Manager of Corridor Studies

East-West Gateway Council of Governments is seeking a senior level professional to manage the corridor studies section of the transportation department. This position will be responsible for overseeing, coordinating and managing all corridor studies conducted by the Council, including Light Rail planning studies; managing the Council’s Intelligent Transportation System and Regional Arterial Management System activities; procuring consultant assistance and managing consultant contracts; participating in state and regional transportation corridor planning projects sponsored by other agencies; and performing special studies required to advance the Council’s mission.

Position responsibilities include supervising staff; performing research necessary to support planning activities; coordinating assigned program activities with other agency departments and with external agencies; interacting with the public and local officials; presenting findings and recommendations to the public, other agencies, and the Council’s Board of Directors; and assisting in the development of agency goals and policies. The position reports to the Director of Transportation Planning.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and planning skills, a background in transportation engineering and planning, and a thorough knowledge of urban and regional transportation planning.  The demonstrated ability to supervise and manage a professional staff, and complete complex planning projects within time and budget constraints is required for this position.

The minimum requirements for this position include a bachelor’s degree in civil, transportation, or environmental engineering, or urban and regional planning and 7 years of directly related experience. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Starting salary based on qualifications and experience.
