The Metro North corridor extends from Clayton and the Cross-County MetroLink extension to Florissant in north St. Louis County.  Metro North was originally the northern portion of the Cross County corridor.  Since the 1997 Cross County MTIA, no further planning has occurred on Metro North.

In the 1990's, East-West Gateway identified transportation problems and potential solutions in the north-south and east-west areas surrounding central St. Louis County known as the Cross County Corridor. Out of that came a number of possible improvements including an extension of light-rail into north St. Louis County.  At that time, a conceptual alignment using abandoned railroad right-of-way along I-170 was suggested. At this time, no further planning has advanced to evaluate the Metro North concept from the 1997 MTIA.

In order to build any future MetroLink extension, federal funds will be needed along with a significant local match. To be considered for federal funding, specific guidelines need to be followed. One federal requirement is to conduct a planning study that fully analyzes alternatives and assesses impacts.  Click here to see a chart of the complete federally mandated planning process. This step of the process has not yet occurred in the Metro North corridor.
