The Daniel Boone MetroLink corridor extends from Clayton and the Cross County MetroLink extension to west St. Louis County. Originally called the West County corridor, the 1991 Systems Analysis prioritized Daniel Boone as a Tier II priority. As part of a 2000 MTIA , East-West Gateway identified transportation problems and potential solutions in the east-west areas from central St. Louis County west of the City of St.
Louis across St. Louis County to the Missouri River, known as the Daniel Boone Corridor. The proposed light-rail line preferred from in the 2000 MTIA would conceptually connect with the wye off the Cross County extension west of the Clayton-Central station, follow an abandoned railroad right-of-way along I-170, cross I-170 north of Olive, follow to the old Rock Island railroad, and then
follow Page Avenue west of Lindbergh to Westport at I-270. This MTIA was carried out under the federal NEPA process although a DEIS was not prepared. A potential connector between the selected Northside and Daniel Boone light rail corridors was initially evaluated as part of a limited supplemental task following study to the 2000 MTIA .
Commonly referred to as the Northwest Connector, such an alignment would conceptually run between the Northside MetroLink alignment near Union and Natural Bridge Avenues along the old TRRA railroad alignment to the Daniel Boone alignment west of I-170. At this time no further planning has advanced to more completely evaluate the Daniel Boone selected alternative, Preferred Alternative from the 2000 MTIA or the Northwest Connector.
In order to build any future MetroLink extension, federal funds will likely be needed along with significant local funding. To be considered for federal funding, specific guidelines need to be followed. One federal requirement is to conduct a planning study that fully analyzes alternatives and assesses impacts. The Daniel Boone MTIA was part of this process. Click here to see a chart of the complete federally mandated planning process. |
