A Brief History of the St. Louis
Great Streets Initiative

Spring/Summer 2016 Projects

Previous Great Streets projects relied on clear direction, significant community engagement, and rigorous detailed analysis.  While many communities within the region can benefit from the multi-disciplinary and public process used to develop previous Great Streets plans, for many, a broader discussion, defining general issues, vision, and direction is more appropriate.  This approach, less detailed in nature, is built around a shorter schedule, a smaller team, and simplified scope of work, but still considers the wide range of characteristics and issues that contribute to a Great Street.  The three-month process centers around an on-site 4-day community workshop (or charrette) where planners from four disciplines partner with the local community to determine what works well, what could work better, and how to get from current conditions to desired outcomes – a Great Street.

There were five corridors in this 4th Round of Great Streets Projects.
