In addition to our products, there are several good external data sources .  Links to some of these (Census Bureau population estimates pages, Bureau of Labor Statistics employment estimates page, Missouri and Illinois labor market information pages, Missouri’s State Demographer page) have been embedded in our listings to target their data to specific topics).  Four additional highly recommended external sources are presented here.  Should both our data and the external resources fail to meet your needs, assistance may be requested in locating additional resources from our Regional Information Services staff: John Posey or Gyanesh Lama at 314-421-4220, 618-274-2750.

  • Missouri Economic Research and Information Center
    • The Missouri Dept. of Economic Development offers a wide variety of special reports and data on its MERIC site. It is organized into the five categories of Economic Indicators, Industry Studies, Occupation Studies, Regional Information and Community Issues. The special reports include such topics as Consumer Confidence, Income and Wages, Biotech and Information Technology, and the impact of industry expansion and layoffs on Missouri Communities.  Some of the reports include county-level data, particularly the Regional Information category.
  • Missouri Census Data Center
    • Good coverage of 2000 Census data to date with some 1990 to 2000 trends, at various geographic levels (counties, cities/places, school districts, census tracts, block-groups, etc.) in ready-to-use table formats.  Much of the data can be retrieved for any state, not just Missouri.
  • American FactFinder
    • Nation-wide census data and maps by selected level of geography, can be retrieved directly from the Census Bureau through this interactive resource.
  • University of Missouri Office of Social and Economic Data Analysis
    • Contracted producer of data resources presented by the Missouri Census Data Center, this source  offers a variety of Missouri data at various geographic levels.  Of particular utility are its “County Facts” from which can be derived not only profiles of Missouri county-level data but through its “Related Applications” link and then its “Related Geographic Comparison Reports Menu,” data at the place, school district, zip code and other geographic levels within the state can be retrieved
  • Categorized data sources
    • for metropolitan areas, cities, zip codes and school districts (updated 02/18/05)
